About Armond White

Armond White is currently the editor of City Arts, for which he also writes articles and reviews. He was previously the lead film critic for the alternative weekly New York Press (1997–2011), the arts editor and critic for The City Sun (1984–1996) and was profiled in New York Magazine (“No Kiss Kiss, All Bang Bang,” February 16, 2009). He is the author of The Resistance: Ten Years of Pop Culture That Shook the World (Overlook Press); Rebel for the Hell of It: The Art-Life of Tupac Shakur (Thunder’s Mouth Press); and Keep Moving: The Michael Jackson Chronicles and What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Movies (both published by ResistanceWorks, WDC). He is a past Chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle and has won the Deems Taylor-ASCAP Award for music criticism. White curates a yearly music video program at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. He has taught at Long Island University, Columbia and Fordham universities. His articles have been published world wide in The New York Times, The Nation and Sight and Sound. He is also co-founder of First of the Month quarterly.
